The Kellner Family Foundation to establish – instead of school – an open-air gallery in Prague on former Hotel Praha site featuring Tony Cragg sculptures

The Kellner Family Foundation – the philanthropic foundation of Renáta and Petr Kellner – has outlined a new plan for the former Hotel Praha in Prague. The Kellner Family Foundation will dedicate part of the grounds to a new open-air gallery for the benefit of the public, as well as building a new public playground. As part of the plan, the nearby Hadovka mansion, the former Canadian Embassy, will be turned into a healthcare institution. The project replaces prior plans to build the Open Gate II school on the site.
The decision to alter the original plan was based on the fact that over the last two and a half years there had been no progress in obtaining the necessary approvals to start construction of the Open Gate II school. A further factor was that scope for establishing a new private grammar school in the Czech Republic is currently limited, while the governmental strategy of secondary education development does not anticipate further support of such schools. Given the situation, the Kellner Family Foundation decided that an alternative project of providing a non-commercial culture space to the general public would be more realistic.
The exciting new project will include an open exhibition of sculptures by the world- renowned British sculptor, Tony Cragg. Eight of Cragg´s sculptures and outdoor installations have been exclusively purchased by PPF Art for the project, which will also feature a children’s playground. The nearby Hadovka mansion will accommodate a premier healthcare institution belonging to EUC, the largest of the Czech Republic´s private outpatient clinics.
