PPF Art

PPF Art was founded in 1995 to concentrate PPF Group’s work in collecting fine art and photography. It manages what is perhaps the largest private collection of Czech and Slovak photography and a collection of works by Czech artists from the last two centuries. It also operates prestigious exhibition spaces in Prague.

PPF was one of the first privately held companies to launch systematic support for the arts in the 1990s, which helped rescue some unique projects and works of art.

PPF Art helps to promote and popularize Czech art in the Czech Republic and beyond. It manages PPF’s art collections, organizes exhibitions in well-known Prague art galleries, and cooperates with other galleries by lending works for exhibitions in the Czech Republic and elsewhere. It also contributes to the production of thematic visual art publications.

Art Collections

PPF Art manages what is probably the largest private collection of Czech and Slovak photography. Josef Sudek’s photographs are the cornerstone of the collection, which also includes, for example, the works of František Drtikol, Jaromír Funke, Ivan Pinkava, Tono Stano, and many others. Young contemporary photographers’ portfolios are added to the collection every year, and it now comprises 2,285 works by 235 photographers (as of October 2022). A selection of the works in PPF Group’s collection of Czech and Slovak photography can be viewed here.

PPF Art also manages a collection of 336 works of fine art, mainly paintings and sculptures, including those by Alfons Mucha, Maxmilián Pirner, Jakub Schikaneder, Luděk Marold, Mikuláš Medek, August Pienhagen, and contemporary artists such as Ivan Ouhel, Tomáš Císařovský, Petr Nikl, Jan Merta, and more. PPF has bought some of the works from Česká pojišťovna’s Golden Fund collection. A selection of the works in the PPF Group collection can be viewed here.

Art Galleries

PPF Art organizes the year-round operation of two galleries in Prague: the Josef Sudek Studio in Újezd and the Václav Špála Gallery on Národní třída where it introduces well-established Czech artists’ works, as well as young artists’ unusual and surprising installations to the public.

The Václav Špála Gallery: Guided by PPF Art, the gallery focuses on contemporary Czech artists’ works.

The Josef Sudek Studio: The work of this globally-acclaimed Czech photographer has become the cornerstone of PPF’s photography collection. The company also operates an art gallery bearing his name, the Josef Sudek Studio, which PPF helped to restore and renovate.
